New AIRPORT MASTER PLAN (In Progress)
The Idaho Falls Regional Airport is in the process of preparing a new Airport Master Plan. An airport master plan provides a road map for efficiently meeting aviation demand through the foreseeable future while preserving the flexibility necessary to respond to changing industry conditions. Some of the key issues to be addressed in the new master plan include:

2010 AIRPORT MASTER PLAN
This Master Plan was completed in 2010. Among other recommendations, this master plan called for closing Runway 17/35 as a way of solving several non-conforming conditions at the airport. These included:
Non-compatible land use in the Runway Protection Zone under the approach to 17/35. Closing the runway would allow the businesses on airport property along the east side of Skyline Drive to remain in place.
Eliminate the hot spot associated with Taxiway C crossing 17/35 at midfield.
Provide 23 acres for landside development.

RUNWAY 17/35 PLANNING STUDY
In 2015, after hearing strong protests from the General Aviation community at IDA, the Airport Director initiated a new planning study to focus on the non-compliance issues associated with Runway 17/35. Over the next few years the Technical Advisory Committee worked through a number of issues that would allow Runway 17/35 to remain open. A final report on the study, the resulting Airport Layout Plan, and preliminary design drawings of the alternatives considered can be downloaded below.
